Population by Race
Why is Hispanic separate? Following U.S. Census methodology, Hispanic or Latino origin is an ethnicity, not a race — people of Hispanic origin may be of any race. “All” shows the racial breakdown; the Hispanic and Non-Hispanic views show ethnicity, so the two groupings overlap rather than adding up to 100%.

Geography
Hawaii's population growth has been fairly steady in recent years. According to the 2010 census, there were 1,360,301 people living in Hawaii at that time. This was a 12.3% increase from the 2000 census count of 1,211,537 residents. Additional census estimates show that the population continued growing to 1,415,872 in 2015 and 1,420,491 in 2016. So while the growth rate has slowed somewhat since 2010, Hawaii still saw over 60,000 new residents added within the last decade. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues when the 2020 census results are published.
